Aurora Aksnes' earliest memory of music is finding a grand piano that was in the attic. She was fascinated by the possibilities it offered. Parents May-Britt as well as Jan Oystein Aksnes encouraged her to pursue music not as an occupation or pastime but as a way to develop. The Aksnes family inspired her to write. She acknowledges Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen, along with Bjork for being among her inspirations. To counter her mother's suggestions that her children should not be aiming to be famous through the songs she writes, but rather be aware of the significance of them and their impact on society. She started playing piano when she was six years old and was writing her first song at the age of nine. She didn't tell her family about it until she turned 14. Aurora's accomplishments were never her dream. She just loves to write songs. She believes music can make anyone feel better.
